The Toymaker
NE Nether Lord of Lost Children, Hopelessness, and Invention
Domains: Artifice, Darkness, Evil, Trickery
Favored Weapon: Light Hammer
Mysterious and mercurial, Joiangel is a being who recruits few cultists but garners a steady following all the same. Evil factory owners who rely heavily on child labor are among his most favored followers, but slavers, witches, and robber barons also number amongst his devotees. He seems to have no mortal agenda aside from collecting a seemingly endless supply of wayward children for his Toy Factory where they toil in endless labor and ultimately succumb to his eerie clockwork experiments.
Those who have dealt directly with Joiangel describe a tall and lanky skeleton with bones of silver dressed in dirtied fine black clothing suitable for gothic society. He prefers the company of his creations and servitors rather than the other denizens of the Nether Realms, rebuffing any and all petitioners to his home unless they engage with his singular passion for crafting ‘toys’. Of the few reliable accounts of direct communication, petitioners describe him as oddly personable and seemingly perplexed that anyone could feel despair in his realm of obvious joviality.
Joiangel’s toys range from the eerie-but-harmless to the ludicrously dangerous. His extraplanar home is a testament to the greatest creations in trapmaking, clockwork, and more. He is particularly fond of his clockwork children, whom he makes out of any orphan that finds their way to his realm. These half-living, half-construct monstrosities are little more than broken shells, animated in perpetual despondency to dance for their master’s twisted amusement.
Joiangel’s demesne in the Nether Realms, known colloquially as the ‘Toy Factory’, is a cold perpetually snow-driven forest cut with dozens of frozen rivers at the heart of which rests an expansive castle laden with all sorts of maddening traps and mournful creatures. Roving bands of worgs claim the forests as their own, but know to stay clear of the factory. An endless ticking sound echoes through his realm at all times, which rumors speculate is actually the sound of Joiangel’s own clockwork heart, kept wound by the souls of mortals who live in depression.
