DESCRIPTION
The nearly mythical mettle harvested only from ore found in meteorites from the Shattered Moon Astros, astracite is the only metal known to the inhabitants of Zenith or Penumbra that is capable of permanently slaying those that serve the Nameless Dark and providing a modicum of protection against their influence. When refined, the metal takes on a deep purple color with faint milky white swirls interwoven within.
In addition to overcoming the DR and regeneration of most tainted beings, astracite also functions as cold iron for the purposes of overcoming DR. Unlike proper cold iron it is not more costly to enchant astracite equipment with magical properties.
There is rarely enough astracite available to be crafted into a full suit of metal armor, though such artifacts do exist and provide legendary protection against the predations of the Nameless Dark.
Astracite Sliver: Small shards of astracite bathed in holy water are used by inquisitors of all countries in determining the presence of the Nameless Dark’s taint. Typically worn around a small leather thong attached to the wrist like a rosary, these slivers grow dark and dull when the wielder has been exposed to a source of tainted energy. They also provide a single time +2 bonus on any saving throw to resist the effects of the taint.
