Rose Aegis

Lore: The rose was once a symbol of strength and power in the Unseelie Court, until the legendary War of the Roses, an internal struggle between factions of the court that spilled into the lands of Orlind.  Known in Orlind as the 5 Year Winter, the lands were overrun with mythical creatures garbed in exotic arms and armor battling in the forests, rivers, and snowstorms.  Mortals would typically only witness snippets of a battle being fought in the court, but the long winter claimed many lives itself.  When the war ended, the rose became a symbol of sorrow and violence, and was banned from the court.  Most relics bearing their likeness have been destroyed or reforged, but a few discarded items were lost in Orlind and remain to this day.

Appearance: A feather-light bulwark crafted from darkwood and carved with a wide variety of sylvan, flowery patterns.  Vibrant multicolored enamel accentuates a flowering rose that dominates the front of the shield.

Effects:

  • +2 darkwood heavy shield
  • Sphere of Protection: Once per day as a standard action the wielder of a rose aegis may invoke a lesser globe of invulnerability as a 10th level sorcerer. This sphere remains centered on the shield instead of the wielder.
