Sidhe Lords

Gods unto themselves, the Sidhe Lords command immense power in the faerie courts and over their respective domains.  More primal and elemental than conventional divinity, their mantles have existed long before mortal kind, and they will continue after the mortals have perished from the earth.  The listed lords of the two courts each carry a fragment of the Nameless Dark’s truename.

Seelie Court

Though associated with more benevolent concepts, the Seelie court is no less dangerous than their Unseelie cousins.  Perhaps even more so for their temptations are often shrouded in kindness and succor.  The Seelie court is always tended by enthralled mortals, drawn into eternal service through bargaining or trickery.

  • Corona, Queen of Summer – Monarch of the Seelie fey, the Summer Queen is wise, maternal, and compassionate to those that serve her. She keeps a passing interest in mortal affairs, and has many watchling descendents planted throughout Zenith and Penumbra to act as her heralds.  She does not take offense well, and is known to smite those who displease her or curse them into an animal or plant form.  Corona appears as a queen amongst dryads, with skin of oak, hair of spun golden leaves, and a dress of shimmering emerald.  She uses magical energy to defend her Court and interests.
  • Hunter, Lord of Growth – Warmaster of the Seelie Court, the Lord of Growth holds domain over unfettered life and energy. Just as chaotic as his Unseelie counterpart, but the Lord of Growth is more reserved in his actions.  He has little patience for tempting mortals into doing his bidding or accomplishing his ends, preferring to simply intimidate them instead.  Hauntingly handsome and brusque, he maintains a courtly demeanor amongst his peers, but holds little more than disdain for mortals (especially druids).  Hunter is rarely seen without his bronze-enameled armor stylized in sylvan motifs.  He wields a pair of slender curved blades and has a handsomeness so alien to mortal kind that it appears ugly and frightening.
  • Cronus, Dayfather – The eldest of all Sidhe lords, the Dayfather is a sage of unprecedented knowledge. Equal parts warmth and fury, he prefers to spend his days in quiet reflection or otherwise keeping tabs on his Unseelie rival.  Perhaps the most benign of Sidhe lords, and also the most difficult to gain an audience with, he has no use for mortal servants or souls.  Very rarely, he will take a powerful mortal spellcaster as an apprentice, often tasking them with a seemingly-impossible quest in exchange for guidance.  Cronus resembles a kindly old human grandfather, always smiling and offering kind advice.  He only fights to defend himself, using scathing beams of brilliant white-hot light to turn his foes to dust.

Others: The Seelie court is home to many powerful beings, many of whom share similarities with the rulers of their court.  Other Sidhe lords frequently vie for titles and prestige through a combination of seduction, trickery, and influence bartering.  Mortals are often ‘drafted’ into becoming pawns in these conflicts.

Unseelie Court

Commonly misrepresented as ‘evil’, the Sidhe of the Unseelie Court are no more or less malevolent than their Seelie cousins.  They are, however, cold and pitiless.  They toy with mortals for their own ends, but some say are easier to negotiate with due to their direct nature.

  • Titus, King of Winter – Ruler of the Unseelie fey, the King of Winter is a cold, blunt man of haunting beauty and impressive physique; resembling a man-sized cross between a frost giant and an elf. Whilst other Sidhe lords are prone to rely on their magical talents, the King is just as likely to smite his foes with one of his immense icy axes.  Blunt and straight-forward, the King is deceptively patient.  His duties mostly keep him uninterested in mortal affairs.  Titus resembles an 8 foot tall frost giant with sylvan facial features.  He wields a massive battleaxe in each hand.
  • Rayne, Lady of the Void – Seductive and capricious, the Lady of the Void is a creature of entropy, chaos, and death. Her behavior is most reminiscent of an impetuous teenager, and she is the most likely of all Sidhe lords to be found holding court in the mortal realms.  Clever petitioners can beseech her for aid and guidance, but only the cleverest of them manage to escape with their souls.  Rayne resembles a breathtakingly beautiful half-elf with pale hair and dark eyes.  Her primary weapon is lust and temptation, though she has been known to rely on prodigious magical talent as well.
  • Avril, The Night Mother – The Night Mother’s domain lies in the moons, the mystery of the night, and in temptation itself. She is the contract holder for the Unseelie Court, keeping in immaculate detail every contract ever held by any Unseelie Fey.  She is twice as seductive as the Lady of the Void, though blessedly half as involved in the mortal world.  She is known to frequent the court of Queen Aurelia, the mortal who would claim to be Queen of the Night.  The nature of their relationship, however, is unknown.  Avril appears as a withered but graceful old crone garbed in robes of blue and black.  It is said that her mere touch can freeze the hearts of mortals.

Others: The Unseelie court is home to many powerful beings, many of whom share similarities with the rulers of their court.  Other Sidhe lords frequently vie for titles and prestige through a combination of seduction, trickery, and outright betrayal.  Mortals are often drawn into such conflicts as pawns.

The Wyldefay

The vast majority of the ‘common folk’ in the realm of the Fey do not technically belong to either court.  They are simple creatures who live freely from day to day and are the most common to be encountered in the mortal realms.  There are also untamed Sidhe Lords powerful enough to stand on their own, beyond the influence of the Courts.  In troubled times, many of the Wyldefay will be conscripted by the courts to aid in their struggles.  Most watchlings are born from Wyldefay, and their motives are as varied and inscrutible as the ever-changing weather.

  • Kastor, Master of the Hunt – It is unclear whether ‘Kastor’ is a name or a title, for the being who leads the Wyld Hunts appears differently depending on the season. In the summer, he is a tall grizzled hunstman wielding slender blades.  In the spring, a lithe female archer.  In the winter, a harsh and beautiful mounted swords-woman; and in the fall, a handsome and debonair swashbuckler.  Regardless of the form, Kastor is always impetuous, chaotic, and free-spirited.  Neither good nor evil, he/she revels in the exhiliration of the hunt.  Titus and Corona both afford Kastor a healthy amount of respect.

Sidhe Lord Traits: Sidhe lords have the following known traits

  • Weapon Immunity: Sidhe Lords can only be physically damaged by cold iron weapons. Each lord may also have additional damage reduction qualities.
  • Spell Resistance/Immunity: Each Sidhe Lord is immune to a small selection of spells related to their mantle in addition to having impressive and reflective spell resistance.
  • Taint Immunity: All Sidhe are immune to the taint of the Nameless Dark, they cannot accrue physical or mental taint. However intense exposure can ravage their bodies like a severe wasting disease.
  • Body & Soul: Like outsiders, all Sidhe are a unified form of physical and spiritual essence. If slain, they can only be resurrected via wish or miracle.

Divine Patronage

The Sidhe lords do not grant mortal spellcasters divine spellcasting, and in fact are known to deliberately seek out those who claim to be their ‘priests’ and dissuade them of their worship.  However, mortals are free to worship the courts themselves and the concepts they stand for.
