Eastmoor

The other half of Mortannia’s heartland shares Adderfield’s rich resources and beautiful scenery.  It is also where a good deal of Mortannian gentry send their coin in order to build lavish summer homes far removed from the bustle of the cities.  Numerous such estates dot the landscape, often left off of any sort of official maps to allow for the privacy of their owners.  It is also here at Prophecy Peak where the mysterious Oracle came from across the seas to establish his commune.  Also of note: the port of Batirsk is a known port of call for traders hailing from the Far Isles and as such bears the least resemblance to a typical Mortannian town.

  • The Oracle’s Commune (LN Large Town) – Founded by the enigmatic Oracle of Mortannia more than a century ago, this community is mostly comprised of those who had been kicked down one too many times by Mortannian society. The commune appeals to many for its professed egalitarian lifestyle and the allure of such a lifestyle is rapidly spreading through the kingdom.  Any and all are welcome to visit the commune, but to live there one must follow the numerous foreign laws that the Oracle has laid out.  Many travel here to seek the Oracle’s wisdom, and he will provide counsel to anyone who can survive the numerous trials laid out in his monastery atop Prophecy Peak.
  • Saravir (LE Small City) – The nominal capital of Eastmoor is built around the base of Castle Saravir, named for the clan that has called this portion of the country their home since the days of old Antravarcia. Folklore suggests that the Saravir family was banished from the capital of the ancient empire for unknowable crimes, but any ancient evils were forgotten with the defeat of the Nameless Dark and the fall of Antravarcia.  The city that has grown around the capital is an idyllic Mortannian town with narrow buildings, impressive stonework architecture, and a populace of quiet, Light-worshipping folk.  Saravir’s fortunes have been on the decline in recent generations with the rise of the Oracle’s influence and many citizens think that the Count has abandoned them.
  • Batirsk (CN Small Town) – The port city of Batirsk has seen more than its fair share of strange foreigners pass through its waters hailing from unknown lands far to the east. Though thought of by some as a largely lawless place, the city is well governed by a local magistrate that is elected every three years from among the populace and policed by an independent guild of sailors.  The town is known for its exotic buildings, expansive foreign markets, and as being a port of call for those looking to escape Mortannia.

The Oracle of Mortannia (Male Imperial Human Oracle [Time]) – No one seems to know where precisely the self-named Oracle of Mortannia came from or what his true name may actually be.  He has presided over his enclave for centuries now though, leading many to believe him some manner of living god.  His teaching preach a philosophy of community-minded altruism that has attracted much of the country’s destitute to his side in search of a better life.  Considered a heretic by the crown, the Oracle has survived more than one attempt on his life and those who seek to march on his commune are met by an army of monks trained in bizarre foreign forms of martial arts.  As the centuries have passed, the oracle has made fewer and fewer public appearances, but none in the commune doubt that he still lives.

Count Yevgeni Saravir (Male Mortannian human aristocrat) – The count of Eastmoor knows full well that his family’s days could be numbered.  As more and more of his people fall sway to the populist allure of the Oracle, the timid aristocrat has become more and more reclusive, spending week-long stretches in the catacombs beneath Castle Saravir.  There, amidst ancient records and the bones of his predecessors, he seeks an answer to the evils that befoul his land.  Eastmoor’s affairs are largely handled by his wife Ekaterina and their three sons, who work tirelessly to manage the attentions of the numerous moneyed families that own land throughout the county (and some would say are bleeding it dry far more effectively than any vampire.)
