Spanning from the base of the southern Duskard Mountains to the edge of the Sanguine Marshes, this county is the royal heart of the kingdom and the core of Mortannian Culture. It is here where Aleksandr Mortav laid down his sword after slaying the Nameless Dark and forged a new empire for all of humanity that remained on the bones of Old Antravarcia. Sharing a border with the eastern grasslands of Al-Hasier (through a pass in the Breathless Mountains), as well as several important trading ports, the majority of Mortannian commerce is run through this county. Officially the day-to-day management of the county falls to the Crown, though authority has long since been parceled out to a variety of petty nobles each responsible for their own stretch of land.
- Kreschingrad (LE Metropolis) – The royal capital of Mortannia was once the ancestral home to the Koroschov family, who have since faded into the shadows of history. The city has always been the cultural cornerstone of the kingdom and now boasts one of the largest populations in the known world. Given its proximity to the Al-Hasierian border and the recently constructed airship platforms, the city has seen a rapid influx of foreigners in recent years (though some not of their own volition). In simpler times, the city was not unlike several other metropolitan centers; although recent generations and multiple city-wide tragedies have transformed it into a city at once vibrant and alive, while also being perhaps more dangerous than the haunted wilds of the country.
- Daybreak Pass – This mountain pass is the primary land path between Mortannia and Al-Hasier. Little in the way of mercantile traffic comes through the pass, but it is guarded just the same by a well maintained keep on the Mortannian side of the mountains. The pass is low enough to allow travel for most of the year but the trek is somewhat perilous due to some unstable footing and cave systems that harbor all manner of hazards. The Adventurer’s Guild keeps a small office in Daybreak Keep and provides steady work for those with the skill to keep the pass clear of danger.
- Kozukhov Cathedral – At the northern edge of Crownslight at the county lines between Talislav, Adderfield, and Eastmoor, stands the pinnacle of gothic architecture that is Kozukhov Cathedral. One part permanent enclave, one part place of worship, and one part endless labyrinth, the cathedral grounds are massive in scale due to its professed purpose. Shortly after the Battle of the Fall, Aleksandr Mortav ordered the construction of a powerful redoubt that could shelter all of humanity should the horrors of the Nameless Dark rise again. With Mortannian grit and dwarven engineering, Kozukhov Cathedral was created. Though much of the grounds remain empty for most of the year, it is still said that the entire population of Mortannia could seek shelter comfortably within its walls. Presently it serves as the headquarters for the Church of Purifying Light and the seat of power for the Dawnbearer.
Alexei Lukovic, Royal Steward (Male Mortannian human aristocrat/rogue) – After the 80 Years War, the position of Royal Steward was made to prevent ascendancy crises from arising in the Kingdom. Alexei is the current steward and has been so for decades, and shows no signs of naming a successor to the throne yet. His public position on the matter is that he is exercising the utmost care and delicacy in tracking down the next living Mortav, but those within Kreschingrad believe he is merely enjoying his position as de-facto King and the numerous sycophants who hang around him. He rarely leaves his home in the Inner Sphere without a small army of guards and is never seen in the Outer Sphere after a (nearly successful) assassination attempt three years ago.
Dawnbearer Rhamiel (Male Fallen Movanic Deva cleric) – The position of Dawnbearer of the Church of Purifying Light brings with it a heavy burden. While the spiritual health of Mortannia is delegated to local bishops, the Dawnbearer’s sole duty is to direct the mission of the Endless Crusade. The archives of Kozukhov cathedral hold numerous secrets that only the Dawnbearer is allowed to know, and upon their selection the Dawnbearer must be held in seclusion for a full year after availing themselves to such knowledge for it can taint even the most pure of hearts. Rhamiel has served as the current Dawnbearer for almost a century after a group of paladins dedicated to the Endless Crusade freed him from his prison in a cave system deep in the Sanguine Marshes. Finding himself disgusted with the state of the celestial planes and their non-interference with the continued resurgence of the Nameless Dark, he renounced his angelic grace and devoted himself to serving the crusade that freed him. Since becoming the Dawnbearer, he has become more withdrawn and troubled, but his extraplanar mind continues to provide unique insights into furthering the success of the Endless Crusade.
